This past week in San Francisco, we installed a unique Bright White painted kitchen backsplash. The product used was starphire tempered glass that is back painted and then sealed. It was installed along the entire kitchen wall, without cutouts and notches for electical outlets, the kitchen hood, 1/2″ thick glass shelves, and other kitchen items.
This week we spent two days installing a Marvin Lift and Slide Door on a project in Northern California. This particular door is a 24 Foot by 10 Foot OXXO or by parting stacking door system. The door and frame are pine interior and exterior with Marvin’s standard brick mold casing. The door features a recessed sill without drainage. The home that this door is being installed in has Marvin Windows and Door throughout.
Phase 2 of the installation will occur next week, when final adjustments will be made and the recessed track will be filled with a low weight non shrink concrete. The concrete will provide complete support under the Marvin Lift and Slide door unit.
A combination of Grace Vycor Pro and Fast Flash from Prosoco was used during the installation to flash the door frame.
Old Town Glass’s crew is a Marvin Authorized Lift and Slide Installer and installs these Marvin door systems in Northern California. For additional information please contact us.

I was recently featured in a quick Q & A with Marin Home. Tough questions. . . can wait to see who they pick for the next issue. Tough being the inagural guinea pig.

Milgard produced a fiberglass extrusion video earlier this year. They recently followed it up with a video highlighting their vinyl extrusion process and the people behind making one of the best vinyl window extrusions on the market. The video is 7 minutes long, but really offers insight into the product and what goes into a Milgard Vinyl window.
On a recent trip to Europe I snapped a bunch of photos of some amazing glass work and unique windows. It is always interesting to see European glass and window systems and provides me with inspiration and ideas to bring back home. The shots range from structural glass to wood windows on a train that are operated by a leather strap.
Check out the video recap from Dwell on Design’s On Stage Discussion with Michela O’Connor Abrams and Christine Marvin discussing an Old Town Glass Project in Mill Valley. The project replaced existing aluminum windows and a door, with Marvin Aluminum Windows and a Sliding Patio Door. The Marvin products used featured square sticking and clean lines providing a contemporary transformation to the Abrams’ home.
We are in the the middle of installing Marvin Evergreen Clad Windows with Clad Brick Mold Casing and Aluminum Nailing Flanges on a residential project. The building envelope is being waterproofed utilizing Prosoco Fast Flash products. The orange that you see on the sheeting is CAT5. The Red is Fast Flash. You do not see the Joint and Seam that was used to seal all the seams and joints prior to application of Fast Flash or Cat5. The windows and doors will use Marvin’s Aluminum Clad Nailing Flanges that will feature integrated corners.
At Dwell on Design 2013, held last weekend at the Los Angeles Convention Center – Marvin Windows and Doors showcased a new booth designed specifically for Dwell. The booth highlighted Marvin’s Contemporary Solutions. We made it down to the show to check out the new booth and watch a presentation featuring Dwell and Marvin. The presentation discussed a project that we have worked on in Mill Valley with both Dwell Magazine and Marvin Windows and Doors. It was an excellent presentation and discussed replacement of the Windows and a Door in the Dwell President’s Living Room. Her old aluminum windows were replaced with Marvin Products that provided a contemporary design solution and brought the natural surrounding into the inside. The transformation was captured in a series of two videos.
